Why Wonder?

Human beings have always wondered about our origins. We imagine our hunter-gatherer ancestors looking into the starry sky and asking ‘what is out there and why are we here?’ Despite our technological developments and sophisticated societies such basic questions have not gone away. Much of popular culture in books, films and TV is rooted in our search for purpose and a desire to trace our origins.

The increased interest in faith schools in England and Wales has brought to a head the issue of how faith is taught in our schools. The origins issue is just one example of where different peoples views have caused conflict. Scientists on both sides of the faith / no-faith divide seek to convince with evidence, leaving the intelligent observer unsure what to think.

That is the reason for the wonder project. We aren’t dogmatic. Our aim is to present the evidence and arguments from every side of this debate. The wonder project will give teachers and students the best guide to the conversation. It will allow you to examine contributions of science and faith, and leaves you to make up your own mind.

Join us in the most exciting debate going. As we help one another to question who we are and where we come from.
